Hi, I'm Dave. I'm a high school history teacher by most days and a garlic farmer by other days.
I'm married to my perfect wife, Christine, and we have two daughters. Life is sweet.
I started my work with garlic in the fall of 1998. I had known about garlic and cooked with it a great deal, but I knew little about how it grew, and almost nothing about the myriad varieties and their special niches.
Chris and I bought our very first (and probably only) house in the summer of '98. I met my new neighbors, John, Runk and Joan. They were at that time growing a variety of garlic known as Carpathian. That fall I mentioned to Runyon, or “Runk”, and his wife Joan that I would like to grow garlic. He drove his tractor over to my lawn and Joan brought over five pounds of Carpathian cloves. He gave me some simple instructions and I planted the cloves. I have been growing garlic every year from the same Carpathian stock.
In 2003 I also started to grow Spanish Roja and Siberian garlic.
I'm getting older (43) and I'm hoping to get this organic garlic farming built into a business that I can make some money from so that I don't have to teach summer school anymore. I've been teaching for 12 years and I've yet to have a summer off. I know, poor me, right?
So, I'm all about the garlic. Check out my website and drop me a line. The site's open for business and I'm always available to shoot the breeze about gardening. Besides garlic, I also grow corn, tomatos, peppers, squash, asparagus, raspberries, onions, leaf lettuce, and sweet potatos. I only use organic fertilizer and never, ever any pesticides. I love gardening. It's the next best thing to eating!
Nothing makes me happier than sitting down to a fresh meal directly from my own back yard.
Help a brother out, buy some garlic and tell a friend!
